Verse Of The Month:  “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).
The world is filled with hatred and strife, people jockeying for power and position.  A follower of Christ will put others first.  When unbelievers see Christians acting as they do, why should they listen to the Gospel message?   Jesus tells his disciples just before His betrayal and His sacrifice on the cross that the distinguishing mark that will set them apart, is love for one another.

Meet-Me-At-The Park had another outstanding day!  Close to 100 kids and over 250 served at the ice cream truck.  April Mead says that “every year the conversations get better and deeper, it’s been amazing!”  The Sam Burba family attended to see this phenomenal outreach into the community (pictures attached).  Thanks to all the volunteers who come out to make it happen!

Ministry Fair Coming August 24!  More details will be disclosed as that Sunday draws near. It will be an opportunity for all church ministries to showcase their service to the Lord at tables in the foyer before and after the service that day.  For those desiring to use their gifts to serve, this will provide an onramp to enlist as a volunteer.  Celebration Sunday will also be observed that day in the worship service on the theme of serving with intentionality.
Staff Sendoff On Monday was greatly appreciated by LaFon and myself. Held at Matt & Elaine Long’s Elks’ Campground, we enjoyed a delicious lunch, a walk to see Lake Michigan, and a number of gifts and mementos reflecting our time at Olivet (pictures attached).  LaFon received flowers and even Koko gave me a photo cube to remember her.  I’ll be styling those biking socks this Sunday!.  A big thank you to Matt Long, April Mead, Jana Erickson, Debbie Randall, and Matt Kooi for making us feel so valued.  We depart for our next adventure having been enriched for knowing each one of them.  Thank you, Olivet staff!

And Finally, Brethren:
LaFon and I have had the privilege to enter into the life of Olivet at a difficult season and to depart at a unified and optimistic time. While it is a bittersweet time, we are thankful to have collected new friends in Christ.  Allow me to borrow the words of Michael W. Smith, who is a fellow hillbilly who grew up no more than 15 miles from us on the West Virginia side of the Ohio River.  He wrote:
And friends are friends forever if the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never 'cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go in the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.
We do not say “Goodbye” but “So Long!” for we will see you again either here, there, or in the air. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (II Corinthians 13:14).
